Policies & FAQs

Vaccinations

To ensure the health and safety of your pet and others, Wye River Kennel must have proof of the following current vaccinations:

Required for Dogs: Rabies, Bordatella, Distemper and Parvo.

Recommended, but not required for Dogs: Flu, Lepto, Lyme

Note: Bordatella must have been administered at least 72 hours before boarding to be effective. If you are unable to get an appointment with your veterinarian in time, we can administer the vaccination if you bring your pet(s) by at least 3 days prior to their stay for a $30 fee.

Please note it is the owner’s responsibility to obtain vet records and email to wyeriverkennelqac@gmail.com

Required for cats: Rabies, Distemper, Respiratory

Required for other small pets: Vet-recommended species-specific vaccines.

Feeding Your Pet

To minimize disruption to your pet’s schedule, we recommend you use food your pet is familiar with. However, Wye River Kennel can provide food, at no additional cost.

When providing your own food, please ensure each meal is separately portioned. Additional charges may apply if kennel staff must portion food for you.

All guests receive treats daily. If your pet has food allergies, please notify us at check in. We are happy to give your pet special treats, that you supply, if requested.

Medications

If your pet is on any medication, we require the pills be portioned out in a pill container for the duration of their stay. Please provide specific instructions upon check-in for your pet’s medication. A $1 per meal charge is added for medication in pill form. A $3 per dosage is added per injectable administered. We recommend you provide a little extra medication in the event your pet’s stay is unexpectedly extended.

FAQs

My pet has been sick, but we are going out of town. Can we still board with you?

All pets must be in good general health to board and play at Wye River Kennel. No pets exhibiting signs of serious illness, pets with contagious viruses or pets with any other potentially transferable diseases/sicknesses will be accepted.

My neighbor and I both have dogs boarding the same weekend. Can they stay in the same enclosure?

Because your pets safety and security is our number one concern, Wye River Kennel does not allow pets from different families to be boarded in the same enclosure. However, if you have a request for your pet to enjoy the play yard with another friend, please let us know at drop off.

Do we have to leash our dogs during drop-off and pick-up? They usually just jump in the car on their own accord.
For the safety of all pets, visitors and employees, customer's pets are required to be
on leash and under control (or in a carrier) at all times while on the property with
their owners.
Can I bring my own pet food or is it supplied with my stay?

We recommend your pet remain on the food they are used to, to minimize any stress and upset stomachs. However, we provide premium food for all canine guests, and they love it!  We can also provide dry cat food as well.  We welcome owner-provided food, and require it to be pre-packaged, individually portioned and labeled per meal. For stays over 1 week, one large food container with feeding instructions attached is acceptable.

What happens if there is an emergency with my pet during it's stay, and I cannot be reached?

We will need an emergency contact while you are away. This is a person we can easily get in touch with to make any decisions regarding your pet's health during the boarding visit. If an emergency contact cannot be reached, we will make the decision if your pet needs to see their vet. All vet charges will be the responsibility of the pet owner. As much as possible we will try to get your pet in with their regular vet, however, if that is not an option, we will use one of our local vets to provide care.

What happens if my pet is on medication and/or supplements?

All prescription medications and supplements should be provided in their original containers. We will follow the instructions as prescribed by the veterinarian. Prescription medication MAY NOT be included / mixed in pre-packaged food. Please provide at least a few days extra of medication in case your stay is unexpectedly lengthened.

Im not sure if my pet has fleas. Does it matter if they have fleas?

It is required that all pets staying at Wye River Kennel be on a flea/tick preventative program. If your pet is not, we do require that you let us know. We take the health and wellbeing of all our guests very seriously. If your pet is not on a preventative treatment program, we may require a pre-admission flea/tick examination. This service can be performed by one of our groomers for a nominal fee; however, an advance appointment is necessary as our groomers work on an appointment only basis. Your veterinarian can help you choose a program to eliminate fleas and ticks.

My Pet Needs Their Bordetella Vaccine, But I Can't Get To The Vet Before Their Visit?

Please bring your pet by the kennel (appointment needed) at least 3 days before your stay, and we can administer the Bordetella vaccine for $30.

Tell me more about your bathing and grooming services

We do our absolute best to keep your pet as clean as possible during their stay with us. That said, lets be honest...they are dogs. During their stay with us, they absolutely love to run, play, dig and just have fun, much like we do when we are on vacation (minus digging of course). We highly recommend a bath before your pet's departure from our kennel due to the amount of outdoor play time and walks everyone receives. As most of our customers can attest to, they love having their dogs bathed, prior to pick up. Please inquire about our bathing services.

I Am Away And Need To Increase My Pets Stay?
